DUI CheckPoint Scheduled for New Year's Eve in Gainesville, Florida
Be aware that law enforcement agencies around the state of Florida will be conducting DUI checkpoints on New Year's Eve. In Gainesville, Florida, the crackdown will include a multi-agency DUI checkpoint in the north east part of town.
According to the Gainesville Sun, law enforcement agencies will conduct the traffic checkpoint checkpoint in the 5300 block of Northeast 39th Avenue starting at 10 p.m. on December 31 and will be on both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Drivers should expect that this "checkpoint" will continue into the early morning hours of January 1. Read the Gainesville Sun article here. The Florida Highway Patrol is also asking people to report drivers they suspect may be impaired by dialing “Star FHP (*347)” to reach the nearest FHP Communications Office.
For more information about how the Florida Highway Patrol claims they conduct checkpoints read the FHP policy manual about conducting "safety inspection checkpoints" here.
Motorists traveling through the checkpoints should expect delays, vehicle inspections and warrantless searches of their vehicles. Freedom loving motorist might consider avoiding the 5300 block of Northeast 39th Avenue altogether on New Year's Eve. Be safe, be aware, don't get arrested. Don't start your new year by needing to hire a criminal defense attorney.
